Selecting and Evaluating Technology

 1. When selecting technology for students with disabilities, it's important to consider their individual needs and goals. Collaborate with the student, their teachers, and other professionals to determine the most suitable options. This collaborative approach ensures that the technology chosen aligns with the student's specific requirements and enhances their learning experience. Consider factors such as the student's abilities, learning style, and the tasks they need to accomplish. Explore a range of technology options that align with their needs and gather input from the team to make an informed decision. Regularly assess and reassess the effectiveness of the chosen technology to ensure it continues to meet the student's evolving needs. The ultimate goal is to empower the student and enhance their learning experience through the appropriate use of technology.

2.The SETT framework is a helpful tool for selecting assistive technology, it stands for Student, Environment, Tasks, and Tools. The framework helps the IEP team assess the student's needs, the learning environment, the tasks they need to accomplish, and the tools or technology that can support them. This framework guides the team in making informed decisions about assistive technology options for the student. It helps ensure that the technology align with the student's individual needs and promotes their success in various learning tasks.

3. There are several resources that can assist with assistive technology (AT) selection. One helpful resource is the Oklahoma ABLE Tech. ABLE Tech is Oklahoma's Assistive technology Act program, who provides a range of services and resources to individuals with disabilities, educators, and professionals. Other resources are (CTD) The Center on Technology and Disability and (ATIA) The Assistive Technology Industry Association, these resources can provide valuable information and guidance to assist in the selection process.
